Answering the Call

My wife Eve, who answers the call with me,

We watched as the salmon swam upstream over rapids, through ripples and toward hungry bears just upstream from us. Occasionally we could observe one salmon back her tail into a pocket of brush in the brook, laying her eggs, followed quickly by a male backing over the same spot and flipping its’ tail two or three times inseminating them. They appeared, against all odds, to be answering the call to come back home and spawn where they were born. After hatching the baby salmon or Alevin spend about a year in their birth place absorbing nutrients and growing. They begin a slow journey downstream but stop at the mouth of the river to begin an amazing chemical change known as smolting, adjusting to life in salt water. The adult salmon then move out to sea and live their lives mostly alone. After two to six years the salmon return to the waters where they were hatched to reproduce. The salmon again spend time at the mouth of the river where they smolt to feed and readjust to fresh water. Almost all salmon will return to their birthplace once or more during a lifetime to spawn. The redeemed of the Lord in Jesus Christ are also answering the call to return to the eternal home of their Heavenly Father. We sprang forth from eternity out of the eternal mind of Creator God who knew us before we were conceived in the womb of our mother.  He sent us out into the world to glorify His Holy Name on a journey intended to develop us into mature children of the Most High God with a like nature, heart and mind. When we accept the appeal of God through Jesus Christ his Son, we are answering the call to come home and be restored to the riches in glory reserved for those who align their will with His in perfect peace, knowledge and understanding. Conceived in the mind of God and planted in the womb of our mother (a type of ‘Holy of Holies’), we are destined to return to the heart and mind that spawned us.

The love of God is sufficient and we yearn to come back home to Him, Kochany
